Had this 6.5" senegal for 3.5 years now always thought it was a senegal. Just picked up a 3-4" skinny female. They look totaly different. Think they are both senegals?
Also, once he stopped checking her out, he would twitch like this over and over. The video doesn't look like he is twitching as hard as in person
Sorry fo the you tube links first videos posting.

Uhm, never seen something like that... Water stats? Bichirs eat anything that fit in their mouths and gravel like that seems tasty to some including mine. He started with heavy breathing and then passed away:cry:

I don't know...the larger one looks dead on to a palamas I used to have...he "shook" all the time...usually getting stuff into his mouth or belly...he often "shook" like that after he'd eat, spitting up gravel...I think it's fine as long as it doesn't progress into scratching...which would be a sign of skin flukes...honestly though, bichirs can live in horrible water...they are TANKS when it comes to durability...but it's still worth monitoring to make sure the shakes aren't a parasite.

also, juvenille bichirs are darker in color than a mature bichir...plus if it's "new" to the tank there is a chance the color is direct correlation to the stress/nerves of being in a new place...cichlids do this all the time.

Looks like breeding behaviour. Someone was probably lonely. :)
I agree

opps sorry for the double post..

ya they are both senegulas. Their colour varies in their souroundings. if a senegal is in a tank with dark gravel thje sen's colour can change to dark(er). if the tank sourounding and the gravel is a lighter colour, ur sen's colour would be more pale.
