Wow. You went on a spending spree! How big are the bichirs? How big are the lace catfish (Synodontis Eupterus)? Also, what is the size of the black ghost? Should provide cover for each of your fish except the butterfly fish. The lace catfish are very territorial, so they will need alot of space, and hiding too. The bichirs can usually share the hiding spaces, but the ghost knife, and the two lace catfish will, impose territory. Keep an eye on these three.

haha. yeah i did.

The bichirs are only around 3" right now. The Lace are not Synodontis Eupterus but are synodontis nigrita. Also, the black ghost is probably like 5".[they are my mini monsters :P] My butterfly has some plastic plants overhanging his surface and some live hornworth floating around. The lace catfish so far have been very nice and are like corys.
The only one that has set up a 'territory' is the bloack knife fish who just chills in his cave all day.

Good tank mates for birchirs would be things like aro's, gars, larger top dwellers. Essentially anything that doesn't fit in their mouth. My BGK does fine with my Bichirs, but they are close to the same size. I would stray from other bottom dwellers though, especially in a 40 gallon. The Senigals will get close to a foot easily. That makes the bottom a little crowded.

i have my weeksii bichir with a african tiger fish =)

time to reorganize my tanks....

I set up a 65 US gallon tank right now set up with three 5" senegalus bichirs, 2 small lace catfish, a BGK, and a ABF and a load of small fish (feeders)

Well, I want a REAL predator in that tank.
the bichirs are way to lazy to go after the HRP cons and the livebearers and the ghost knife only eats some at night. The butterfly fish isnt too interested in live foods as well.

they all like the shrimp i give them i geuss :/

but I was wondering what I should get in this tank. Im planning on getting rid of the ABF and the BGK to make room for a larger predator.

I will be expanding(to a 180 i believe) sometime this year as soon as the bichirs pick up some more growth, so size isnt much of a problem.
I want something that lives on the surface or close to it. Like a gar, arowana, or Hepsetus odoe.

I want to the bichirs to grow up saftely so that they arent munch by a bottom eater.

Do you guys have any thoughts?

get a clown knife, mine has always done well with different bichirs, hes the fiercest eater in the tank too, they do get really big though, mine was about 6'' when i got him less than a year ago, now hes over a foot long, also, he will only eat live fish

Also. Can anyone tell me what they have in thier tank with thier bichirs..

Check out my tank setup. The cichlids are fine with my bichirs. Mine both got nipped by one fish (no damage at all) when we first put them in. Now they just ignore them. It's weird - they run into each other all the time, literally, but just ignore each other. It's like they check em out - and then they're over it.
They do great together actually.
