My neighbor just gave me a 125gal. I am really want to get into breeding guppies for desired traits. This requires a lot of individual tanks to pair them up individually. I was thinking of taking plexiglass and sectioning the tank up with it and silicone. Has anyone ever split a tank up into 4 or 5 sections? Or can someone give some input as to what I am thinking about doing?

It'd be easier to filter the tank if your dividers had slots in them. Other than that, sounds like a fun project!

This might seem silly but i have to ask anyway: Would the fish seamen be able to travel from one section to the next and impregnate the female in a different section?

guppy are like like rabbits man. just throw a few male in with 10000 female and males will serve all the females lol. in no time u'll have millions of them. just seperate the one that get pregnant.

I am separating for genetics though, so I dont want one male fertilizing another female in another set that is setup with another male.

Shouldn't be an issue. Guppies fertilize internally.

I suggest semi-rigid jap mat or Matala mat as dividers. Cut pieces just slightly larger than the tank's width; they will stay where you put them without need for sealant, are easily moved, and provide some additional biofiltration.

Net dividers sound like the best/easiest solution. Especially compared to what I was thinking. I think I am going to go with that craft plastic criss-cross stuff.

I am going to go to the craft store and get some of those plasic sheets with have holes in them (im not sure what they are called). Could I just use hot glue instead of silicone to make sure they dont budge?
