whats the point of having a preditor fish if you can't feed it feeder fish? :screwy:

call me strange but i dont' get it

U can feed them feeder fish but there is 2 reasons y other ppl don't. 1-they are pron to Desieases and 2-The cost of feeding feeder fish. I have all but 3 of my fish to accept both feeders and other stuff

i dont buy them to eat other fish although some of my fish have which was down to my stupidity but i buy them for looks some preds just look fantastic.

I use feeders, which feeders depends on where I am, in Korea it was mainly weather loachs, I like using live anchovies for fw feeding if I can get them. I quarantine and salt treat them if I can and salt dip the others, Unless the goldfish are culls from a breeder I try to avoid them because of copper content, I prefer mollies if they are cheap enough. I just don't feed the predators exclusively any one food. Piranhas will happily take any small fish and crickets, shrimp, and crayfish as well, sometimes I would tie a thread to an earthworm and suspend it in the tank, it would not last long. A mixed diet helps prevent health problems.

You can feed it feeder fish but you should quarenteen them or raise your own. The reason many people don't is because they don't want to invest the time it takes to breed them or don't want to introduce a disease.

I use a 4 bin rotation to quarantine bait minnows. I don't use feeder goldfish because the copper levels in them will kill my AST, albino RES, brackish/marine predators, and the large inverts I maintain. And, they can cause liver damage to my FW predators, as well. With fish like my albino aethiopicus, pair of AULs, 7 mbu puffers, 15 dragon puffers, leichardti aro, Siniperca, 30 polys, 6 Af & SA lungfish, plus a few thousand other fish... why risk their health?

I breed LBs to have food available for young fish. But, I'd need a couple of large ponds to be able to supply the couple of thousand live fish I feed out every week.

Predatory fish are not all about watching them eat. Sometimes they are simply pretty or may have very interesting behaviors.

I feed my fish feeders, so when they eat, ITS ON!

But hey, the rest of the time, i just like to admire their behviour and personality- they can be very intelligent - and anyways, who said fish have a 2 second memory?!?! :D Mine recognises - green net = feeding time

But they can be expensive - the price to pay as a monsterfishkeeper ay?

Most people i know dont feel live food to dogs and cats, so why is it any different with fish?
