serious tank problems!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You could show him some of the awesome Piranha tanks on here and I bet that would help your cause :naughty:

I love how my 180g's old setup look, but unfortunately I had to remove all the big driftwood to give them more swimming spaces.

it boils down to trust...you have to show him you can handle the responsibility and earn his trust. A bigger tank is actually less maintenance due to water parameters not changing as quickly. Explain the ramifications of not upgrading and how the fish are suffering.

if that doesn't work why should the piranhas suffer.

find out when he's not gonna be home get the tank and set it up before he gets home.

what is he gonna do make you put everything back...what's done is done.

get your own money, and buy the tank yourself and just dont tell him, once you have it at home he wont have a choice but to accept that you have got it. thats what i do all the time lol

If it was my house and I told you no and you got it anyway (raising my electric and water bill) I'd be very very upset...:irked: In fact I would most likely sell the tank, fish and everything else dirt cheap just to make a point then buy myself something nice...

If I was you I would start asking your father if he needs help around the house, start doing the things he tells you to do without him having to tell you. Don't ask for little things and don't bug him unless its important. Keep out of trouble and make sure your current tank is in great condition. You may not think so but simple things and actions go a long way towards getting your parents to soften up on issues like this.

But most important is sit down and control your emotions and have a serious talk with your father about the fact that Piranhas need a larger living space, a 55 or 75g would be appropriate. Let him know that you have learned a lot about keeping a tank clean and that the smell will most likely not reoccur(since you have MFK)

And prepare yourself for him to say no because in the end its his house and while you live there its his rules. So you may need to sell/trade/give away your Piranhas until you can get a larger tank, and that may mean waiting till you own your own place. I had to wait... so I know you can make it :D

Yea dude you need to show your dad this forum and let him know you didn't take all the proper precautions and maintence for the tank not to smell. You also need to tell him you need a bigger tank and will read up and learn the proper way to maintain a tank and keep it from smelling. It should never smell..... And if it does, have some carbon handy but once again that shouldn't ever even be needed.

alright I will let you guys know how it goes. hopefully he will earn my trust for once!

lol sounds like your off to a bad start if your own father needs to earn your trust. Seems like you need to earn his trust for once IMO :screwy:
