Serresalmus Rhombeus Growth Rate?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
in first year of their lives should reach about 6" then slow down to 1" or so a year the growth slows down as they get bigger. usually captive kept ones max out at around 12" or so and that takes years

Thank you JP i was actually thinkiin of Pm'ing you. But i was thinking of getting a 1" from pedro and then getting it in a 120 by itself. do they like power heads?

Yeah Pedro has some baby serra's from Venezuela and some serra's from Peru coming this Tuesday. I would like to get 2 of each to see how my luck rolls.

Ive never had piranha before but i like the peru type so i was lookin at those.. hows the venezuala different?

By the way, These baby serrasalmus' are not guaranteed to be Rhombeus P's.

Not 100% sure but I always wanted to try and raise a vinny rhom(from Venezuela).

well, getting one in a 120g will be a waste and feeding will be a b!tch.
put one in 10g and grow it out then move to bigger tank then to 120g slowly.

the difference between location of rhombeus will have a different appearance. some like the typical vinny rhom look some like other location variants.

but at that size it'll be almost impossible to tell what they will be. the baby serra from Peru could be compressus, could be sanchezi and could also be rhombeus.
similar applies to the serrasalmus baby coming from Venezuela.

I would get a few more to grow them out until they can be properly ID then you can decide which ones to keep.

day 1 vs day 16

lol, it's only 1.5" I think, def. less than 2"
not too shy during feeding time, during feeding time it will swim to where I usually drop food in and beg like a puppy dog, lol
