www.exoticcatz.com is a great site, forums full of info, and helpfull links. I would join if I were you. I joined there a while back.
If you get a serval, I hope your not planning on having children, or already have children, as a serval will see them as prey.
Savannahs are also quite large, infact pretty much all of them are hand raised as a mother domestic cat cannot supply enough milk for such large kittens. I would not get one though, but thats just me. I personally do not like hybrids.
Servals can get anywere from 20-40 pounds, need a large outdoor enclosure, and LOVE water. They display alot of dog like behaviour aswell, but still do purr and act just like a house cat. A house cat on speed!
I would recomend a smaller exotic cat first before getting a serval, such as Geoffreys cat, very amazing looking cats with very funny personalitys.
Also, in pretty much every state, you need to apply for a USDA license to own a Serval, wich takes quite alot of time, and you must have an outdoor enclosure and you will have your facility inspected by a USDA inspector, The USDA license may not be needed in your state, but it is in most. And the outdoor enclosure needs to be HUGE. With top, perimeter fence, trees for climbing, toys that the serval cannot destroy and injest, and a small pool of rthe serval to drink/bathe from.
And another thing, Servals, like other exotic cats, WILL spray and mark there territory even after being fixed. And will most of the time pee on the walls, floor, werever they feel like it. I'd suggest installing linoleum flooring in every room, cause its pretty nasty having serval wizz stains all over the floor, furniture walls, etc. Youre going to need to serval proof your house aswell as servals can jump VERY high and will knock thinks over, hide things, break things, and so on.
