Setting back up my 90

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My advice would be to remove the jewel.
Pound for pound they are much more aggressive than firemouths.
Gt's could also slaughter a firemouth if it decided to do so.
Firemouths have very weak easily dislocated mouths and usually fair badly against other cichlids.
A group of firemouths with some livebearers would make a very nice tank.A group of about 8 firemouths would be ideal for your tank.

Thoughts on adding maybe a salvini or more jewels to my 125? I hate to give my jewel up would a pair of jewels fair better. Stock on that is a male jd, freddy, black belt, and a Texas.

Salvini have been said to be maniacal with other cichlids. Maybe you can rehome the firemouth and find the jewel a buddy and a shoal of other fish

I'll just find the jewel a new home and go the fm route. Should be a fun tank

Thanks everyone for the input.
Good decision.
Jewel cichlids are attractive fish but for their size they can be extremely aggressive.
A breeding pair of jewel cichlids can be a real force to recon with and can cause havoc in community tanks.
Personally I think jewels are best kept to a species tank,a pair on their own in a well decorated tank.
The firemouths will be easier to manage,a lot more peaceful and a lot more interesting imo.
