k im new to the saltwater setups but i was wondering if i could bring fish from local beach and 2 5 gallon buckets of water and put them in the tank and can freshwater aquarium salt be used for mixing new water

idk about the fish idea but the the aqurium salt is a no u need to buy specail salt for saltwater or go to petsmart if u have one and buy there 5gallon pre mixed saltwater

how much is the premixed saltwater i think the fish idea will work cause i have kept some fish from there alive for quite a while most the fish from there are pretty hardy mainly becuase they live in pretty crappy water wit pollution

Please don't take any animal from the wild and try to keep it in an aquarium until you have done a lot more reading. The basic question of what kind of salt to use implies that you're nowhere near ready to take this on. In addition, there's very little chance that, at this point, you would even have an idea on the care requirements of a random animal taken from the wild.

To start with, try learning about setting up a saltwater tank:
http://www.wetwebmedia.com/marineSetUp.htm
http://www.wetwebmedia.com/marsetupii.htm

Then, learn about the types of fishes who can live in a ten-gallon tank (there aren't that many, and chances that you're going to randomly pull one from the ocean are pretty slim). Try reading here, and those linked pages underneath "small system set-ups" for some ideas on stocking and maintaining small systems:
http://www.wetwebmedia.com/smmarsystksfaqs.htm

Please understand that it is not acceptable for any responsible aquarist to release an animal to the wild once it has been kept in captivity. This is why you must be educated before ever stocking the tank:

go research for like 2 months come back and then ask us real Questions

jk

just do some research and if you find anything confusing just post it up and we will help you out

k read most of them but most of the fish im thinking of catching are not common saltwater aquarium species so its hard to find info and the fish are pretty easy to catch there is one that is brown olive colors with like seaweed leaves it is some kind of puffer fish very cool fish though

If you don't know how to care for it, you shouldn't bring it home, no matter how easy it is to catch. As I said, there are plenty of fish brought into the hobby commercially that are still dying (I'm thinking of the Moorish Idol, the fish I would LOVE to own but know I can't provide for). So I bought Bannerfish instead. Why catch your fish, rather than purchase them at a store? That way, you can research the fish before you buy.

I don't know if you would want, or be able to fit any fish from the Gulf in a 10 gallon for long. Nonetheless the water. That stuffs like 60% crude oil,20 %feces 15% god-knows-what and 5% saltwater.

You're better off making your own saltwater. you don't know what's in the Gulf and honestly don't want it in your tank, ESPECIALLY a 10 gallon. (smaller tanks are harder in saltwater than bigger tanks).

As for fish, I can't think of anything the gulf has that can fit in a 10 gallon. But then again, I've never fished in it so I really don't know. Just watch out for crocodiles.

And you still need to do A LOT of research before you should attempt this. Taking a wild fish from the ocean, and throwing it in an improperly maintained aquarium due to lack of research will most certainly result in death.

thats probably true about the water

but should i keep that water or just put them in a mixed saltwater im not going to catch them till the summer im reserching right now should i setup a tank and just put some cheap fish in there to get the tank cycled
