Setting up 700 gallon can't decide on going pressurized or good old wet/dry

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They got some great pumps looking at the silent dolphin for me at 6250 gph because of my distance to travel again thanks everyone great information and great post and yes ️Iam going to run one huge UV in tandem but I got a set up with the tank that has 4 plumbed in line together rated at 6000 gph may use that one but it will need bulbs and the bulb covers

I also found this place online has like 3$ screens and 6$ bulkheads tuw universal seal that's crazy cheap abs virgin plastic vs MD 24 $ each

Just curious, what is "huge"? 120 Watts, 240 Watts, more? Replacement bulbs, ballasts, quartz sleeves can start getting spendy.

If you have a real high output pump a UV system is not going to be ideal unless it is massive and very long. I would just put a 36 watt UV on the output side of a small cannister filter like a Rena XP3 and put it on your sump or tank. The faster the flow rate the less time the UV light has to work.

I have to look at the wattage its the large 36" with wiper ...2" in /out i think its around 2500 GPH its either the 40 or 56 I would use the other ones but they dont have the wiper and iam a huge fan of the wiper to keep the sleeve clean it really works ...I really live youre poop sucker sticks how did you make those i just orderd all my bulk heads and screens from uniseal

Since you asked, this won't be a thread highjack :) Pond Foam, Polygem Zoopoxy, acrylic paints, Polygem clear epoxy paint. I will post pics, but here is jrt's build thread using Polygem to fabricate fantastic stuff.

Love his stump/root build and all his other stuff

After seeing jrt's work, I realize that we did things the hard way. We sculpted with Pond Foam and then just added Polygem to cover the foam, when we could have added the Polygem directly to the PVC. (It would have used more Polygem with repeated applications)

Didn't know how well the Pond Foam would stick to the PVC, so used metal mesh around the PVC.

When the Polygem was smoothed down, the pipes had a wood look to them

We decided we wanted a painted background, so put Polygem on foam panels.

two right side panels and the fifth back panel--we tried the panels in before taking them to the artist for painting.

Polygem is used to make tank decorations. Here's their website:

marinerules started using Polygem to make his fake corals

Now you know a trade secret. The sky's the limit to what you can fabricate :)

We originally were going with black back, bare floor and black pipes. We even had black lamination placed on the back when the tank was made. I did find a source for black PVC. (We used white PVC below the Ts which was covered with Polygem)

I believe you wrote that you got your bulkhead fittings, but I'm posting some sources

This looked interesting, but I didn't get any clear PVC

What we found with white PVC covered with black Krylon Fusion paint, is that the black wears off. We now have black poopsuckers with white spots where the Krylon Fusion came off. Perhaps it's just our big brute boys hitting the pipes so hard.

Going back to poopsuckers, I did a 50% water change on the 300 gallon tank today, and realized that my plans for the big tank were flawed. We have a pipe tied into the uptake pipes from the tank. This pipe runs under the house. We have a valve outside that we open, and the tank water gravity flows from the tank, under the house and dumps out behind the house. There used to be a high uptake in the tank that we closed off when draining the tank. It broke off (that's how powerful our brutes are), and we haven't bothered to replace it. I had planned on using a high uptake for one of the Ultimas, but will need at least one poopsucker plumbed to the Ultima for easy purging of the Ultima.
