does anyone have an ideas on what type of filter system and heater i should use on my 120? i dont have a whole lot of money and i am on a major budget... what type of filteration would be best.. also how many watts should the heater be? need my temp to be able to reach 86+

Personally I'd run 2 Eheim 150W heaters. For filtration, the cheapest means for you would be 2 Hydro 5 filters. One running by air pump, one running by an AC 70 powerhead, and an AC110 HOB filter with 3 sections of bio media. Personally I'd run 1 Eheim 2217 canister with Ehfisubstrat pro, 2 AC110 HOB filter, and 2 Hydro 5 sponges.

Personally, if you need to heat a 120 to a constant 86 degrees, I would put two 250 watt heaters on there.

its a lot of water to keep that high. you need some wattage IMO.

for a budget filter, you probably can't beat two Aquaclear 110's, although I have one AC110 and a Rena XP3 on a big tank and love it :)

300 watts is about right for heating a 120.

Check Ebay for the best filter deals and remember that its always better to start out with ONE good quality filter and add to it when you can than it is to buy a lot of knock off junk you'll have to replace in 6 months.

Hydro 5's are a fantastic way to add bio-capacity to a large tank without spending a lot of money.

thanks guys.. i will check out the hydros... my tank is going to be in my basement.. hot in the summer and cold in the winter.... i am going to need the tank warm all the times.. the tank is getting stocked with cichla :headbang2

Yep, you are looking at the right thing. It is not a joke. They are one of the best filters you can get for your money. This is how it has been done for years.

hmm..I guess it depends on where the tank is.

I know when I had a 300 watt on my 90 I couldn't raise it up past 84 (to treat ich) without adding another heater..but then my tank is in my basement and it is a bit cooler than the main floors in my home..
Then I think your heaters are not very well made. I had a single Ebo 200W in my 135 when it housed monsters only, and it could hit 95 without any problem.
