Setting up a BGK tank. Help please?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
BGK's are slightly electric fish, and use that to sense their location much like a bat does with sound. Because of this you don't need to provide a cave for them to provide darkness, just one to make them feel enclosed. The clear pvc pipe trick works well, although it doesn't look natural. Otherwise a piece of slate leaning against the glass will work as well while letting the BGK remain visible to you. If possible try to watch them interact both during the day and at night. The oscar may nip at the BGK's fin during the day, but at night the knife will probably rule the tank. For being as delicate as they can be, knifefish can also be extremely aggressive and capable of bullying fish much larger than themselves.

I'm growing up a bgk at like 3'' right now, and he already killed a 6'' tankmate (sort of delicate mormyrid). I had assumed it was other large things in the growout, but by observation I figured out it was him. Just happened at night!
