Setting up a feeder tank, which fish to use?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Try scuds, I put up a thread about "a different kind of feeder" in the "general aquaria discussion" forum

something you can do is go to a store and buy some livebearers that are already to the point where they are ready to have their babies. I did that with a few to stock my 60g community tank. Mollies tend to have an average of around 25 babies in my experience.

i bought a 4 inch convict for 3$ at lfs...cheap real cheap.....but i do have an empty 25g and 35g that would be fun to try breeding my own feeders...idkk

I have a saltwater as well, and you can acclimate Mollies to salt, so they are my choice. Not that they last very long anyways :naughty:

I breed Guppies, and if you have several females, you can keep a ratio of about 1 male to 2 females, even higher sometimes. Its slow starting, but my guppies have 20-30 babies each drop. Get some java moss for your breeder tank, because the guppies like to feed on thier babies! The java moss will provide cover, and if you have a good 4 to 6 females, you should have more fish than you know what to do with.

Do danios breed liek that??? I saw the post right before mine.
