Setting up a new flower horn tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
20% weekly isn't sufficient for even the pleco alone at its current size, nor for the flower horn alone once it puts on some bulk. It's not even close to sufficient if both fish are in there.
What percentage would you suggest?
Or am I looking at bi weekly changes

I have zero flowerhorn experience, so I would listen to those who know when most of them caution against combining one with another fish regardless of bioload.

I would also listen when they state that flowerhorns are delicate and sensitive to poor water conditions, so if I had one it would be alone and would be getting at least 80% water changes weekly.

In my 90 gallon, with a single adult FH, I did 80-90% weekly water changes. I also kept the temp at 78-79F (not 80F+ as many suggest) and never power fed, and never fed high protein foods of any type.

I need to look into that, I’m OK with big water changes it’s easy with my pond pumps.
After this thread I’m leaning towards not putting my common Plecco in there.
I currently have two bristle nose pleccos in my 55 with one common in the 250. I’m willing to trade in the fully grown bristle nose Along with the rest of the fish in the 55, they won’t survive in my 250 with what’s in there, but I am keeping my half grown albino plecco.
It’s just a matter of whether I leave him in the new 90 with the flower horn, or move him to the 250 with the common Plecco, eight parrot cichlids, 10 rainbow fish, 12 Colombian tetras, six silver dollars, seven electric blue acaras, 12 rows line sharks, One random angel fish, one Chelsea’s, Two SAE’s, and two snails.

I think thats everybody LOL

If you value your BN, I would not place him into a 90 with a FH. Just sayin .....
