setting up a salt water tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
matt, is this your first saltwater tank?
if so go bigger. way bigger. like a 55. it's just easier untill you get the hang of how SW works. trust meyou'll have to add water to a 10 everyday and test just as often. you're limited in selection of fish. and actually some of the easiest ones to keep should be in a thirty or bigger.
just FYI.

I am so excited I just purchased my 210 gallon fish tank to be set up as a salt water tank.Well now I am going to need all your help, this will be my first saltwater tank and your advice will be greatly appreciated. Besides, it is your fault for having such beautiful saltwater setups. LOL...

if you dont mind spending some money i say go with the new red sea max. its like 34 gallons and has a 3 stage filter, i believe, including a protien skimmer. it has the compact floresent lighting so you could do corals and anemanes. it would be bigger than the tank ur looking at, and it comes with pretty much everything you need so you won't get overwelmed with everything. you can also by a kit that goes with it that includes things like crushed coral, salt, hydrometer, and a few other things i can't remember at the moment. it looks to be a good system. just got a few into the store where i work can't wait to play with them:).

what are those like biocubdes and eclipes or something?
yeah they are nifty i have a 29 bio cube set up with a false perc amd a blue dasel and some feathers. they look pretty cool. because the walls are curved the reflections look cool. if you look at my tank in a certain way, the rocks make a skull in the reflection, it's AWESOME!

could you use a spare 10 gal. to grow some live rock or inverts to save some money and possible practice w/ sw a bit?
