Any chance we could get an update?
I think thats possible. So far every one is alive and healthy. They survived another summer. Huge amounts of food were consumed because the temps got up to 85.
I will take some pics tomorrow

Awesome! I really enjoyed reading about and studying pictures of the drainage system with the standpipe that bypasses the valve if the sump water level gets too high. GENIUS!! I have what I think may be a really stupid question, but here goes. How did you cycle the tank so fast? I'm reading about the tank work, and all of a sudden "I added the fish". Huh?! And HUGE fish, lots of em. I thought sure I'd see two pages of posts about waiting on bacteria bed to establish. How did you get enough bacteria in all the bio balls to process ammonia? Surely not a case of SafeStart?

Good question!
I added very dirty filters to the canister filter and I added a lot of fish water from the tank they were transferred over from. This works every time for me. I think it's a solid practice for starting up a new tank.

Ah, there's a canister filter involved in all this, too? Lemme go back and read it all through again. I gotta tell ya, this is awesome. I didn't know what a "sump" was when I started reading this thread. I've never had a reef tank, I've always used Eheim canisters on freshwater tanks. Sump? Why bother. But having the ability to continuously change water, turn a knob to drain the tank, that's very seductive stuff. And now I'm studying on this "Herbie overflow". More Internet genius...

The "trickle" system is the best thing ever. It's unbelievably simple and works great. Check out my other tanks in my signature, they are all using the same trickle system and drain out to my yard. Except the Goonch tank, that's in another room with my Gulper cats.

Kevin Fleming (here on MFK) helps me move most of my fish stuff. He's also the owner of Jurassic Aquatics here on MFK also. He's a good friend and very strong lol.
