Right now Im using a 20 Gallon for a few months Then he gets a Fat rubbermaid Wooo.

k, Questions are

Im washing out the Tank with Salt and water, Should I be doing this?
Also do you think he will need gravel? I have Drift wood and such so he can be a ninja But Gravel? Is it needed?

And fliter is a strong one. I think for a 40g tank for now. No current were he can get caught in as well.

Anything I should get for him?

washing your sank with salt and waters fine, but you can also use viniger. as for substrate.....never had a turtle before.

I'd skip the substrate. It will be easier to keep the bottom clean. Even though the filtration is rated to twice the tank size, I'd probably still go bigger if you can afford it-snappers are really dirty

A plastic tote is totally wrong for your turtle, even if it is made by Rubbermaid. Or were you talking about a Rubbermaid trash can? Either way, Rubbermaid does not make anything appropriate for turtles. He needs an aquarium or a large pond that will duplicate his natural environment. He needs to see beyond his enclosure if it is going to be indoors. Start saving now for something suitable for him.

As he grows, his appitite is going to grow with him. With that, his poo will follow. They are very messy. As he grows, he won't take kindly to being removed from his tank for cleaning. Therefore you should plan for the tank to be able to be drained and cleaned while he is in it. You don't have to do a sterilization cleaning every time. Water and a sponge will do just fine. If possible, try to plan the tanks location to where it can be hooked up to a water supply and drain (you will eventually need to do daily water changes).

My snapper grew to over 55 pounds, and I never really did find anything that was suitable filter wise. My best suggestion is a wet/dry without mechanical filtration. You can try mechanical filtration but you will probably come to realise that it will be easier just to drain and clean the tank daily.

Thank you for those,
He seems to take a interest to the filter so far He likes to sit on top of it more then hide, Vibrates lol, hes taken a liking to me he snaps at his tank when hes hungry and sees me by it ( His tank is near my computer and I spend 90% of my time there. and other people he snaps at there fingers and such but he doesnt care about me. I guess its a bond thing. . I mainly have it there for when I feed him live fish and such.
I have a pump for the tank when cleaning

Thats the toughest thing about turtles. What happens if you are one of the few who takes care of them well enough for them to live? Comparatively you have a red tail catfish, so plan accordingly.

This is what you have to look forward to.
