1st of all I would like to say hi to everyone and my name is Darryl. I'm new here in the forums and need your help guys. I'm planning to set up an aquarium for arowana and now I can't decide which 1 should I get....

Both are 125 gallons, but with different dimensions:

1st: 4 ft 2 in wide, 4ft 7in high, 1ft 10in deep
2nd: 73" long, about 21" deep and 18"tall

Any suggestions?

Thanks everyone

-Darryl

If you are wanting to grow an aro out, i would go with the longer of the two. You will get a lot of people on here saying that a 125 is way too small to house a full grown aro for life. If you are wanting an aro for life, you will need to upgrade within a year to a year and a half, they are quick growers with the right conditions. To answer your question, I would go with the longer. 72x18x22.5 should be the dimensions for a 125, or thats what mine is at least. Good luck with your aquarium :)

Hi Darryl welcome to MFK.

You might want to check on your sizes again. I checked on your second tank and its only 60 gallons not 125 and your first on is only around 130. And neither of those tanks could hold an Arowana of any species for very long.

How much experience with fish and arowanas do you have? There defiantly not a beginner nor even a intermediate fish to keep. Before getting any aro you should do lots of research first. search the forums here check out the stickies and also look at this to help you decide. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36281

i second that. if you want to get an arowana try with a silver first . there the cheapest of arowana and it will not be such a kick in the guts if it dies on you. good luck anyway

Thanks guys, I found the aquariums in CL so I didn't really see the aquarium yet. I had a silver one (from 6" to 26") before and ended up giving to a friend since we're moving out of town. Well I'm planning to get a 125 gallons straight, so it will give me an ample time to save up and upgrade in the future.

The longer tank is much better, but will be too small within 12 to 15 months. Since you have yet to buy the tank I would suggest at least a 180g 6x2x2' tank. You will still need to buy a bigger tank in a few years, size depending what type aro you get.

You may want to either check your math or use a volume calculator

The second tank he listed is in fact near 125 gallons not 60 as you implied. While the oddball dimensions for the first tank given(most likely an error) are close to 240 gallons not the 130g you came up with.

lol

FOr R/O water. Check your tap water first for hardness, ph, ammonia, and etc.

R/O water is good in general bc it is the purest water you can get. But Aros are fairly hardy after they pass 4-5 inches. The main thing is to take your time acclimating the fish. My tap the ph is 8.0 my aro is thriving on it, also even the baby aros were doing fine with
