If this is a morality contest, and it certainly appears that many people want to make it that, why would switching a $5 part be any different? In my experiences with people in general, if I had switched a $5 part, not one person would've said anything. For some reason people believe a $240 switcharoo is worse than a $5 switcharoo, even though the broken o-ring they'd get in exchange would be completely worthless, where as the entire 404 would be worth quite a bit.
loogie, there really is no difference to me whether it was a $5 or a $240 part. It is still the same act, but your observation is correct in that a lot of people would have been more forgiving of one over the other. I just wanted to know why you didn't mention anything about just switching the o-rings if that was all that was wrong. It would have avoided getting your thread sidetracked. Now I know. I do enjoy following along your 65 gallon build. I find myself laughing out loud whenever I read your posts. Please keep posting! Thanks!
