Setting up new nano reef, filtration questions.

That was the same situation for me, I had to get some rubber legs meant for chair ends from the hardware store and silicon them to the bottom on 4 corners like little legs. Then the sand fills the space and covers it so you can't see it. Doesn't bother me personally but I agree would be better if it fit perfect, they are made for the standard sized aquariums and take into account the plastic rim on those tanks
Yeah was figuring on using pvc if I went with it. I'm still trying to decide. Honestly, I'm tempted to use an empty canister filter for extra water volume. But I want to do it right and this is the first time iv used a decent tank. Always have used cheap Petco stuff other than my 125 gallon gar tank.

Some people like canisters for marine, personally like being able to use filter floss and swap it every day. Breaking a canister apart can be a pain, not something I want to do often. But that may just be me

I ran a cpr aquafuge on the back of a 30g I had when I started into the salt hobby. I still have it...lol it's got a built in skimmer, not super efficient but it worked. But then you are hanging something on the tank again.

I'm not super opposed to it. Just sketched out by it as this tank is rimless and trying to find a viable alternative. Unfortunately I'm not finding a ton that gives me hope. The all in one insert looks good but no pump, and 2 inch too short. But an ac70 with the overflow box is just looking better and better to me.

Why did I have to pick a freaking rimless. Should have just revived the damn caiman den.
