I will have enough filtration for the fish that will be in aquarium . I am simply asking for some tips, dos, and donts on a planted tank.
My overall goal is to have a natural looking driftwood with plants.

What do I need to keep a healthy semi low maintenance planted tank?

I have had plants before but usually they end up breaking apart, dying or get eaten.

I plan to sent up with about 3" of natural color gravel . Is that enough? Should I have another layer or something?

What are your thoughts about under gravel filter and/or CO2?

I don't want to go crazy on lights I have a 48" light with t5 or t8 . Probably a low to mid .

I'm forgetting to ask stuff and leaving out info I'm sure.

Someone get the ball rolling please
While I look through stickies and post

Thanks

First you need to decide on what type of setup you want:

high light / low light setup? Do you want to use or avoid using ferts and Co2?

What type of plants do you have in mind that you absolutely must have?

Having some type of direction in mind will help with people giving you advise...
