Setup Suggestions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've stuck with this since I've got a huge deal on it. Maybe I'll upgrade down the road and use this as a qt. I can't to to get some livestock in it.

Here's a more recent pic with 25lbs of LR.

I'll be rearranging the whole aquascaping soon when I add a few more little pieces. All comments are welcome.

looks good so far,

be very careful of the fish you choose for this tank, many fish are already too big for this tank,

maybe a small school of chromis , or dwarf angels,

stay away from tangs, as they need alot more swimming room,

maybe you could set this up as a mini reef for now, and buy a big tank later

yeah what were you planning to kep in there alot of fish (as said) are too big.
BUT imo, alot of the most colorful fish are also the smallest.
any kind of clown, most damsels, all blennies, gobies, firefish, basslets, cardinals, dwarf angels, small wrasses, and pretty much any invert'll do just fine in there.

yeah I am getting whatever that fits in this tank. no one would like living with 6 people in a 2 bedroom home, thats how i see it. but yeah, i am not gonna look into whats going in here when water is stable. thats the most important thing to me as of now.

also it just seems as if there'll be a lot of glare off those white rocks and sand. if possible try to grow some coraline aglea on the rocks, there's a tread about purple up coraline algea boost on here you might want to look into that. and alot of macro algea, especiallt if you don't intend to do coral for a while. they'll also help keep your nitrates down some.
just a suggestion.

I've been browsing this community for a few days and finally joined today after I picked up my first 20 gal tank for a salt water setup.

I am very new to this hobby and have a few questions before I go out and buy things I don't need/work well.

Here's what I have so far.

1. TruVu 20 gal tank
2. stand
3. pump
4. light (flourescent)

I've been shopping around for a filtration system but not sure what'd be best for my 20 set up. There are so many different kinds so I am not sure which filtration set up would be best for SW.

I am not too sure which kinds of fish I am going to get but I have a few in mind... triggers, lions, and maybe eels.

I pretty much wanna get the tank started and decide what fish i want later.

Thanks a lot for your help!

As for Filtration...You can get away from a skimmer if you have a nice fuge, and do like a 3 or 4 gallon water change every week. Check out the DIY section for the AC110 mod to a fuge. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67145 There is another link to ReefCentral of somebody who is using this on there 10 gallon. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...pagenumb er=1

I just ordered my AC110 and will start my mods as soon as it arrives tomorrow. If you can get a skimmer to go with the fuge, you could probably get away with water changes every 2-3 weeks once it is well established. would would have to add trace elements more often and keep it topped off. Keep in mind that at only 3-5% evaporation, your salinity levels can rise to deadly levels.

Also check some of the online marine sites and do some searches for nano fish. If you have some good filtration such as the fuge I mentioned above, you could probably get away with 4 or 5 fish. with 4 or 5 I would incorporate a fuge and a skimmer.

fire fish
fals perc
clown goby
shrimp goby
watchmen goby
neon goby
coral goby
royal gramma
chromies
etc.
