hi have 2 gold severums and i love them. even though they are greedy as hell.. . i got them in august for like 3.00 each @ lfs. they had a bunch of them and were all pale quite white. after a month of krill and hikari gold along with plenty of bloodworms and beefheart they have grown up to 5" and have a beautiful orange color. im new to them and all i know is what ive read and researched. is it true that the males have more facial to gill markings? :help2:

They do (or mine did anyway). Males should also have more of the rows of little red dots you see on them, and longer fin extensions of course (when they're bigger).

Re: strains, I saw a "blue severum" probably 20 years ago. It didn't have the turquoise head markings like the turq's do, it looked like a green except where the normal green has green on it, it had dark blue. Very cool fish.

When I tank-up from what I've got I want to get some sev's. They're great fish...maybe they don't get as much attention because they don't get huge and they're not as aggressive as some of the more popular CA/SA cichlids are.
