Theres this really really strong ocean smell, like the salt air, the seaweed and everything. its kinda grosh-ish-not really but my mom hates it. lol does anyone else have this?

thats kinda weird. I don't have this in my tank. Maybe something died? Or, is your tank new, because if you have uncured rock it kinda smells.

Even if something died, there should be no type of smell like that.
Why not give more information about your tank before expecting an answer. Or is this like charades?

have you recently put live rock in?
if so and it smells then it is uncured
which is what happened to me
i put my rock in a tub with fresh saltwater
and a powerhead or power filter and an airstone
then i put the lid on the top to block the smell
it should cure eventually. when it is cured it doesn't smell

umm......No.
Uncured rock will not give out an odor out of the water.

It will only give an odor when out of water and when you are smelling for it.

Please don't try and give off bad information, and more importantly something that you have no idea about.

um... i havent put in live rock recently and it just smells like ocean which can be either bad for some people and good for others. i kinda like it and my mom hates it. it smells like salt air when you at the beach or something. that kinda salty smelling/tasting air. it can only be smelled when you nose is near the surface. just wondered if anyone elses tank smells severely like the ocean. maybe its a good thing lol

Can you give more infomation.

Tank setup? It can be a bad thing if you are having bacteria dying off.

Salinity? Nitrates? Nitrites? Ammonia?

i have a black saddled toby with about 5 pounds of live rock (been there for a while) 10 lbs of regular base rock, a few new coral frags (not enough to make any sort of difference) and lemme do a quick water test...

Ya, it could be your salinity.. but you would have to have alot of salt to give off an odor.
My tank gives off a similar sent, but i have to stick my nose right down near the water to get anything.

When was your last water change?

nitrates: less than 10

nitrites: 0

Ammonia: .25 ppm (eek!!!!!) i didn't know that!!!

hardness: 425 ppm (tap water around here)

Alkalinity: 300 ppm (tap water around here)

pH: 8.2

and a water change is now in order.
