Ya, it could be your salinity.. but you would have to have alot of salt to give off an odor.
My tank gives off a similar sent, but i have to stick my nose right down near the water to get anything.

When was your last water change?

like 2 weeks ago. i have so much overfiltration i dont really think of things like this... (bad habit i know... i know...) it has an AC110 an eheim 2213 and 100 gallon protein skimmer... the corals are doing fine and ill check the salinity... one sec...

so why is mine smelling?

do you have any other tanks with fiddler crabs? they crawl out and die and smell nasty... my basement smelled like that for a long time after mine escaped. haha... other than that i dont know

I FOUND THE REASON!!!!! i got a new halide light for my corals and all the algae started uber photosynthesizing and floated to the top and it smells like seaweed on the beach... ill clean that up and smell it in a while and see...

Where did you purchase your "live rock" because if live rock is dead... it gives off a funky smell pull a peice out of your tank and give it a wiff if it stinks you need to cure it and talk to you LFS and give them **** for selling you dead live rock lol
