Severum and cichlid community stocking help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok then here is my final plan:
1. Let the tank cycle with the danios and shark w/c every 3 days or so (when ammonia goes past 0.50)
2 once tank is cycled give it a week or so of water changes to get down nitrates
3. Let settle for a few days
4. add pleco and raphael
5. Wait a few weeks
6. Add severum convict firemouth and four line.
7. Tank complete!

Sounds like a good plan.

Great, finally something I suggested will actually work successfully :headbang2.

Alright then I guess this is the end of this thread, check out my log of 75 gallon thread for updates if you have any interest in seeing how this turns out.

Never got any responses to this before when I asked and I do want to have a backup stocking so would this work as a 2nd resort?
Fish:
1 Firemouth
1 Convict Cichlid
1 Rotkeil Severum (in case they don't have greens)
6 Giant Danios
1 Rainbow Shark
1 Striped Raphael Catfish
1 Sailfin Pleco (until to big)
1 four line pimelodus
1 sun catfish (to take some of the small amount of bioload that having a rotkeil instead of green severum would free up)

Weekly W/C.
Again not changing the other stocking plan just like to have backups.

Sun cats get big and you will need to rehome it or get it a much bigger tank at about 8" or so. With the sun cat, I would do twice weekly water changes, but that stock will work.

The bioload between a rotkeil and green severum are no different, at least not in such a drastic way that it would alter your stocking density.

I thought that rotkeils and red shoulders were smaller by like 3 or. 4 inches? Oh well I'll do the original I just wanted a backup.

The reason that I'm trying for a backup is that my LFS does not always have severums and it is 40 minutes away so it is not just a 5 minute drive from home. What I noticed they have a few of that I like are pink tilapia. Would that work plus the fish from the original stocking -the severum?
