So I’m horribly indecisive and keep changing what I want to put in my 125... now leaning toward severums, geos, paratilopia polleni (single), pike/dwarf pike cichlid (single or pair), a nice pleco and maybe Denison barbs depending if I go dwarf pike cichlid or not. For severums I’m leaning Notatus, and for geos, jurupari. My question is, what’s a good number for each in my 6’ 125 gallon?

Kind of a lot of moving parts, makes it a tough question to answer without getting an 'overstocked' lecture. I'll skip that and just say imo all those fish won't work together, except maybe while they're al juvies. Polleni are small fish predators, twilight hunters, good sized and chunky fish as adults, especially males, not really conducive to a group of geos AND severums, AND pikes, and...

You could possibly start with small fish and pick which to keep as they grow, but as adults... besides numbers and size of fish the polleni can be a wild card in terms of which fish it will play nice with.

Was definitely was planning on starting with a larger group and widdling down.

I actually prefer the female body shape of polleni and figured with passive, non look alikes I wouldn’t have much of an aggression problem.

As far as the severums and geos (I know they’re not technically geophagus), I wasn’t thinking huge groups. My initial thought was 2 severums, 4 geos (1M, 3FM) but was wanting input on the reasonablility of that since I haven’t kept jurupari before.

I only say a pair of pikes because I’ve heard they do well in pairs. That being said, last time I tried to get a pair of dwarf pikes I ended up with 2 different species... and to clarify, really planning on dwarf pike cichlids.

I won't comment on stocking levels, but what I do know is that in just about every video I've seen of the Cichlids you mention in the wild, they are often seen living together in close proximity. I'm actually planning on keeping Severums, Geos, and Pike, along with some smaller, supporting cast in my current setup.

Polleni is the wild card, if you go for a female might be just fine though. I'd say 2 severums and 4 of the jurupari is a good number of each, though breeding pairs will complicate things a bit always. I would personally go for a different species than jurupari, as the juru's get large and tend to be skittish IME. I would go for rehead Tapajos or maybe steindachneri instead. But could be do-able with the juru if you really prefer those.

I would do 2-3 Severums, a pair of dwarf pikes, 5 geos and the polleni. May be a bit overstocked but I would see how things go

Ya, I saw a video the other day that changed my mind back to this.

How big do jurupari get? Honestly had them as a pick because I like how they look, but don’t have a ton of info on them yet.

Jurupari can grow to about 10 inches, the redhads and steindachneri both about 6 inches

Oh ya, 10” is a little big for a group in a 125 =S

As an eventual adult tank, if you're thinking of smaller geos, then a pair of severums, 6 or so Tapajos red head geos (or pindare or similar), couple of dwarf pikes, medium pleco, etc. should all work. Adding a female polleni could also work, becomes a case by case situation.

Or, for geos, a male steiny with a harem of females (same for pellegrini, a close relative). As juvies you could start with more severums, decide which to keep as they grow.
