Severum and geo ratio?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Juvenile severums can be very hard on one another (even in an 8 foot tank), and will ignore other fish. I would get 6-8 of them (easy to sex at 2-3" TL) and find out which ones pair off.

Thanks for the responses guys! Jurupari definitely get bigger than I feel comfortable with for a group in my 125. I’ve had redhead tapajo before and was wanting to try something different. I’ll take a look at the other geo species recommendations but for now it’s all going on hold again =S I’m still open to other suggestions though! Anything goes so let’s me hear it if you have an idea.

Imo you could do jurapari, but if you kept a group (not just a pair) it would just limit how many others you'd want in the tank when everyone reaches max size. There are other geo possibilities @ 6 inches, and more @ 8-ish inches, some beauties in that range, though not always available. Almost too many to list, with varying temperament and water preferences. I'm far from having kept them all, you could spend years just trying out geo species, unless you have a lot of tanks and $ to work with. :-)

Ime, when you see max size for a fish it's approximate, or an average, some will be smaller, some a bit larger. I had red head geos range from 5.5 (females) to 7.5 inches (total length).

Most people say geos like or need to be in groups, I've found that's more the case as little guys. As adults, especially pairs, most of them don't seem to mind either way ime.
