It wasn't at its best color, with greens and blues, but not too bad

I'm not sure how the hybrids work but I count 9 stress bars, better pics would help confirm.

Looks like a Rotkeil like said above. Great looking sev! Love sevs. Even my green sev changes colors like a chameleon.

I'm still leaning towards notatus just going by the slope of the head. Here's an older pic of one of my 2 rotkiel. Perhaps ryansmith83 ryansmith83 'severum afficianado' sees this and chimes in

Nine stress bars = not a rotkiel. Look at xraycers photos and count the bars, rotkiel have 8, most others have 9. Wonderful pictures showing those bars by the way, rotkiel can be rough to see.

Those are both gorgeous fish. I bought him by the common name black spotted severum. I googled that and surely didn't find heros notatus. But I'm sure that's what he is, I got him from a pretty trusted place.

H. notatus would have black spots on the gills and yellow under the chin. If the fish has eight stress bars I'd say H. sp. Inirida, which look like notatus but have red/maroon spots instead of black. If it's got nine bars, it's either a hybrid or a really colorful H. efasciatus. I think the tank lighting is making its colors look more vivid than they actually are (judging by the color of the other severum and of the tank decorations around it).

It's not a rotkeil.
