Severum, im 99% sure is a slight fin rot?

How do you know it's truly fin rot?

If it is fin rot, you need to find what's causing it and address that problem. What is your water quality like? What are your pH, ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite readings? How often do you do water changes, and how much do you change each time?

If water changes fixed it the first time, I'd say it's an issue related to your water quality and you should probably increase the amount and/or frequency of the water changes.

i second that, its been asked like 5 times and you still haven't provided that information. we need that to help.

ok so before i started to do my 65%-70% water change i checked and the nitrites and nitrates were above from average which was in the danger zone, i had not cleaned the tank since like 3 weeks ago as i was very busy, all i saw was greenish water, not cloudy, but yellow water due to floating algae as a result from excessive nitri(a)tes, and when i vacuumed under the huge rocks, there was some signficant amount of fish waste under it like uneaten food and poo, i sucked it all up leaving the playsand free from anything.

So now.. how do i treat it? while i was cleaning the severum was even more stressed as the rocks were gone, less water in the tank, etc. and all the bottom waste was up floating around for like an hour and a half until i clened it and refilled it with clean treated tap water, and im NOT sure whether he hitted him self as it is skittish and ripped a few lines from his Anal fin or the disease attacked more quickly as the sev was more stressed during the water change.

I added some API aquarium salt i had, which was for half of the tank only... and lowered the temp to 77-78F. it was around 80-82F., i am also reducing food for the fish so that not a lot of waste is created, and give them good amount of sleep at night, now that i have removed the convict the severum doesnt chase any fish now, and is more relaxed, before this he would chase the convict when it was in his sight
Is Melafix useful against this fin rot
i also have read some human medicine pills against gram negative bacteria can be helpful when treating fish fin rot.. please read what i have typed as it is important, ill come back

All my severums are kept in warmer water with temps in the 80s. I don't think this was stressing your fish. I also don't think you need to add any chemicals to your tank in order to cure the supposed fin rot -- clean water will probably clear it up. It sounds like your tank was very dirty and in need of maintenance, so that's the first step in fixing any issues you may be having.

I would do another large water change soon, in the next few days, and just observe the fish for a while.

Yes, I keep my severums all at 82 degrees and higher. I agree with Ryan. If you do water changes, and only water changes, leave your filters alone, every 3-5 days for a while, I think you will find your fish will heal up with no additives.

How much do you feed these two fish currently? And how often. I think we are really getting close to finding the issue with their fins, now.

well since i go to school i just fed them one time at night, A LOT to the point where the oscars belly was almost like pregnant, but not the severum
s the severum's was just fatty but not super fat like the oscar's the oscar eats SO fast when i open the lid and i have the pellets in my fingers and im about to drop them he doesnt wait for them to fall he inmeadetly jumpst at my fingers in a blink.. lol.
so should i feed them just once but a little bit, or twice from now on? also i feed them balanced: one day cichlid pellets at night then next night krill then next night bloodworms, then pellets, pellets again, then krill, etc bloodworms are not very often but at least once a week
EDIT: i cant really feed the severum the right amount as the oscar eats as if there is no tomorrow, iwish i never teached him jump. he just jumps as soon as i open the lid and doesnt let the severum eat a lot as he puts all the pellets in his mouth until his mouth makess WIDE O and either way the severum gets a fair amount of food but the oscar alwayss gets more than him therefore makes more waste, he doesnt spit out food like other oscars though this one at least has some manners -_-

You are feeding too much and not doing enough water changes. The problem seems to be nitrate burns & not actuall fin rot. You only need to feed what they can eat in 3-5 min, once or twice a day. There bellies should never "look pregnant". Do 30-40% water changes every other day for a week then at least wekly 40-50% and You should be okay

exactly, couldn't agree more. Clean water means healthy fish. i prefer feeding small amounts twice a day. Always could get up a littler earlier before school and drop a small amount in. then at night, drop another small amount in. Your biggest problem you had was the fact you didn't do water changes for 3 weeks. no matter what, even if i am working 50+ hours a week and still have a million other things that need to be done, i alway make time for water changes. what always helps is come up with a routine, like say you do your changes every sunday night, then you just know every week that is something you have to do.

ok the sevs tail is almost perfect today but the anal was like more affected and is slowly healing
