Severum ph?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My severums did fine with a ph of up to 9.0, but they did not thrive. They are hardy fish. Most fish can adapt to ranges well outside of comfort, but that's not to say that's okay. I kept mine in well water for a long time with no ill effects in regards to illness, but their color was so much better when they moved to a neutral pH, and they started breeding.

I will try to bring it down a little. I do not want to stress him out.

Adjusting pH causes pH swings. I would leave it. Swings in pH have a more stressful effect than keeping the fish in water a little out of it's normal range.

I keep my pH in my sev tank at around 6.8 with peat in the filter and some driftwood. The taps pH is 7.3 and the peat does a great job stabalizing it at 6.8.

yea severums area softwater fish i try to maintain mine at around 7

What the hell do you have in your water lol. I would love your water for a reef tank! 9 is very high for any SA/CA cichlid and most will not tolerate it. I am suprised your sevs did for a period of time.
