Severum Questions

I have a single chalceus and I love it. In your tank one would be best rather than trying a group.

An oscar would work also, I've kept the oscar/severum combo before with no problems. What might cause you trouble is getting them all at the right size. BGK and chalceus don't grow particularly quick, especially compared to an oscar. You'd want to get the knife and/or chalceus bigger than the oscar to start, but not so much bigger that they (the knife and bichir in particular) could eat it.

yeah well i would plan to get them all really small and the oscar would be the last one i would add, and yeah i know i definitely wouldnt have space for a group of chalceus but do you think i would still have space for one if i went with the oscar as well? will probably add the BGK and chalceus(if i would have space for it), then once they got a little size on them add the sevs, then the oscar and bichir at around the same time

I think that would be fine. The trouble you might have, and there's really no way to tell in advance, is if your oscar decides he hates your severums or wants to eat your chalceus. Some do, and it can be pretty hit-or-miss. More than likely it will be OK though.

Another concern which will again be a "depends on the fish" type of thing is somebody nipping off your BGK's tail tip. The bichir and oscar would be possibilities with that, though lots of folks have that combo or similar and have no problems.

ok great thanks then i think i will def try all of them and see how it works out, the oscars i have had in the past have been really mild so hopefully im lucky and get another one that is like they were (i had them grow up with tiger barbs and never once did they eat one or even pick at them) and he will be added after all the other fish (besides the bichir) have had some time to grow a little (probably wont add him or the bichir until the sevs have gotten big enough to pair off some what and have found the others different homes) and hopefully everything will work out with them not picking on the BGK but i know sometimes fish with flowing fins are just too tempting so will make sure i have another tank ready in case that happens, but i should have enough driftwood in there to allow everyone to hide and get away properly, thanks again for your advice :)

No worries, sounds good. Good luck, and don't forget to post some pics when it's up (we love pics) :)

haha yeah i will be starting a new thread once i get all the redecorating and everything done and for sure will be posting plenty of pics of my new babies :)
