I've had a yellow colored female severum for awhile now in my tank. I recently acquired a normal colored male severum from another hobbyist. They spawned for the second time this past sunday. With both spawns, the eggs started to develop fungus after about 30-36 hours. I was able to observe them spawning the other day and could not see any milt coming out of the male. I thought perhaps he was "defective" but I collected a few eggs last night and looked at them under a microscope today. A few of the eggs had developed fungus overnight, but a couple still looked viable. In one egg, I was able to see the fish start to form, and it actually twitch. So, the male is obviously fertile.
Any tips on how to prevent the eggs from getting fungus in the main tank? They have spawned both times in the same place- on the back side of a large piece of driftwood. Taking the driftwood out of the tank is out of the question.

Here is a pictureDSCF0868.JPG of the eggs. You can see the larvae start to develop; I think the area where you can see the 2 black, parallel lines is the tail end. The egg on the right I could see some movement in.
Any tips for combating the fungus?

spotfin spotfin congratulations.

I've heard of people moving eggs to mason jars then adding methylene blue until they almost can't see through the water to help combat fungus

May try something like that. Have heard of using methylene blue or formalin against fungus. I don't have the time or tank space to devote to raising a whole bunch of severum fry. Might be nice to get a few though. Puzzled as to why all the eggs get fungus.
