Severum tankmates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i hear that geos go good with sevs. plus theyre beautiful fish. i would forget about the gourami though, i think that he would get chomped

Absolutely NO on the oto's. Everybody else will be fine, not my taste though. I don't like the single con and sev in a 55. Unless the sev was already bigger and the con started small. Sevs are great I have two adults in a 55, and allgood.

chocolates are ideal tankmates for severums, but in the tank in question they get far too large

All down to the temper of the Sev.

Some are glass bangers, some are soft as butter.

Mine have been kept with loaches, whip tails cats, large danios ,synos (during their aggressive phase) and geos and corys (during their mellow phase) with very few problems.

Tanks a little on the small size for many more tank mates though.

Best of luck

I meant to add before I posted- I think I might need something in the lower strata of the tank- which is why I suggested the loaches. Any other ideas for something small that stays lower in the tank than the bows and severum? Any cichlids that might work? I've thought about Bolivians, but think they wouldn't work with the sev. I'm open to a bigger tank if need be- possibly getting a 55 first and then the bigger one later (if I get the bigger one first, I won't be able to get a 55 also, which I'd like to have anyway for other cichlids later on :) ).

The true botia speicies are a bit hit and miss with broad sided cichlids.

The Loaches have a nasty habit of coming alive at night and whiskering the sides of the cichlids. Resulting in either some very stressed, sleepless fish, or a quick decline in your loach population.
