how exactly do you go about sexing severums? i cant find anything conclusive other than the worming on face but thats still a little ambiguous to me
 
Here is my Green Severum - nearly 8" with very long threads off pectoral and anal fins. A lot of blue on the chin; a lot of red on underside of body. Great personality - greets me at the glass whenever I come in the room.

IME, worming on the face is an accurate way of determining sex. If you look at my pics posted above, top Rotty is female, bottom is male. In the pis of red and green courting, red is male and green is female...verified.
 
The facial striping doesn't always work with super reds because females will show it, too. It's almost always accurate with greens, turquoise, golds, and rotkeils, though.

There's no real accurate way of sexing H. severus or H. sp. 'Atabapo.'

H. notatus males will show red and/or black spots on the cheeks and face while females will have solid green/blue/brown faces.
