Severum tips n pics

Good morning. I’m sure some people know me on here

I’ve made a 2 bad stocking choices in the past.

Well I’m planning to restock

I’m plannin to rehome my medium size fishes n get 1 big severum. Maybe 6 or 7”


Also beside Jeff raps. Where could I order a big one

Maybe I can tell my lfs to order one for me


Any tips or tanks makes of pics would be nice

What size tank do you have? 1st thing to ask when looking to give advice.
Cichlids of the Americas (dan) is another good vendor, as is wet spot tropical fish. Not sure who has big severums, rapps probably is your best bet.

10 lemon tetras.
10 rummynose tetras
And 3 cories(I’ll get 3
I also have a pleco

Did you have him as young or an adult

I've found they are nowhere near as peaceful as their reputation.
I have some at the moment in a 210 gallon 7 foot tank and they are by no means peaceful.
I have had many central American cichlids show less aggression.
If you want to chance a large Severum in the confines of a 75, carry on.
Don't say I didn't warn you.

I got him at the lfs at that size for only 5 bucks they wanted to get rid of him because of his attitude but I had Oscars a managuense about 9 inches a green terror and other "nasty" cichlids in a 125 gal tank and about a half an hour after I put him in he had them all in the corners

I had a pair of heros liberifer go through a school of 20 tetras in about 2 weeks. And the liberifer were only in the 4-5" range. Yours won't stand a chance if you actually manage to find an adult severum to add to your tank.

Most vendors won't have them available at adult sizes very often. Tangled Up In Cichlids would definitely be the place to go.
