Hi All,

So I have been doing a bit of research on some fish that I might stock.

I have read that both Severums and Uaru eat plants.
Do they absolutely decimate them? Or do they pick on them a bit?
Is it all plants? Or are there some tough ones (Anubias, Crinums, Vallis) that might survive?

Thanks

They do love to eat plants but my anubias are doing well... Other plants ive had they always eat

with my severum, plants he can't eat like anubias, he shreds up and pulls it out.

Uaru will destroy pretty much everything in a tank. They love to eat and shred plants, but they will also chew on driftwood and eat your sponge filters. They are like goats. I should take pictures of some of my sponge filters; you can tell the ones that I've had in Uaru tanks because they eat all the sides down until the sponges are rounded.

Severums will mess with plants, too. Mine do like to eat things like Romaine lettuce, so it's not a stretch that they'd be attracted to aquatic vegetation. I think most larger cichlids, even if they don't eat the plants, will enjoy digging them up and shredding the leaves. My large severums have actually been picking the fake plastic leaves off a floating plant in my 210.

Yea my severum gets bored from picking on her tank mates then starts to destroy all the plants in the tank (she will do the same on days i dont feed them) lol im glad i have a buddy with a good sized planted tank so i can restock my tank when he trims his tank.

Thanks for the replies. Just as I suspected.

Would Viejas be the same?
And Chocolates?

I never really noticed my chocolate eating plants, but being similar to severums and uaru in terms of curiosity, they may still dig them up or shred them if they're bored. Most of the Heroini tribe will gladly rearrange a tank if they're not satisfied with it. ;)
