SEVERUM vs. DISCUS

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Of course if you haven't been doing regular (weekly), large water changes, this will be a shock to the fish's system. If done weekly, you can get away with large water changes& they are quite benefitial. At that point, there is no such thing as changing too much water. Discus breeders do 100% daily. I can't tell you the last time I've had a sick/dead fish (other than of old age). Been keeping fish for 30 years & never done less than 50% weekly WC.

If you haven't done a water change in a while (shame on you), start with 25% WC every other day for a week. Then commit yourself to weekly water changes, for the best health & longest-lived fish.

45% 2x/wk does not nearly =90%/wk.

IMHO, severum have an enormous amount of personality and grace. I can watch mine for hours interacting with one another and the other fish in their tank, as well as with me. They have color, although the greens are subtle; I have babies from Jeff Rapps, Orincos and Rotkeils, and look forward to their distinctions. I have no experience with discus; they are certainly beautiful, but on a teacher's budget quite out of range. My two cents . . .

quiet a bit really.

Actually I was just reading an article on this over in Discus& Angelfish land.... They say the two can be kept together quite successfully. I'm going to have them seperate. Severums are special to me, I love the fish... I've never heard of a "red" could someone post a picture? I'd love to see some of the "other" color morph varieties if anyone has a stunning turquoise or a blue.

Severum's cannot breed with Discus. Theres a LOT of difference. Such as body shape, temperate, attiutude, colour, feeding, care needs, etc.

Ive seen tham spawn, the offspring look just like your avatar
