I have a young severum who seems to be having a great deal of trouble battling an internal parasite. His poo is stringy and clear and he doesn't seem to be very interested in any food that I offer him. He hides in the back of the tank behind driftwood for most of the day. I've been treating the tank with metronidazole for 5 days now and I'm still not getting much of a response. I also tried raw garlic, which he showed no interest in, and metro treated live brine shrimp: he ate a few but spit most of them out.

Any advice for me?

Yep. The Flagyl's not going to do him much good. You should be using Praziquantel. You can get it in liquid form as Prazi-Pro or you can buy General Cure powder packets at PetsMart or JungleTabs Parasite Clear. Whichever is easier and faster for you to get.
This is all assuming he's in a fully cycled tank with regualr water changes and not a newly set up tank.

What's the deciding factor between treating with prazi or metro? (just for general knowledge) Also, the tank is indeed cycled...right now he's in a 10 with a aquaclear 200 filtering.

I just did a quick 30 second Google search to get this. A more in-depth search would give you more info, I'm sure. Metro is more for bacterial infections instead of parasitic infections basically.
Here's the description of what Flagyl (Metronidazole) is for in fish:
Metronidazole 250 mg is for the control of some common bacterial fish diseases. Effective against aeromonas and pseudomonas genera and mysobacterial group (gill diseases chondrococcus)
And here's what it says for Praziquantel:
Prazi is extremely effective for the treatment of external flukes, liver flukes, internal parasites and internal worms in koi, goldfish and tropical fish. ‘Prazi’ is a one time treatment and because it is so gentle, it does NOT require any water changes after treatment and you do NOT need to bypass your biofilter. Prazi also will work with any amount of salt in the pond and it is not water temperature dependant.
One treatment, not two. No water changes needed
Safe for all species of non food fish including Orfe, Goldfish and Rudd.
No filter or reef bio-filter effects
Deworms cestodes, anasakis, capillaria and other intestinal parasites as well.

I honestly don't know since there's not a 100% way of knowing if parasites are the problem. I use it during quarrantine of new fish but haven't used it on fish already showing signs of sickness.

Coppersafe for intestinal parasites?
I wouldn't mess with that, I've heard too many negative things about it. And while it works for velvet (sometimes) and ich (sometimes) I don't believe it does much for internal parasites, assuming that's what her Sev has.
