Severum

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my severums are chill. they mate every so often and thats the only time they are aggressive. they were my first fish in the tank and have tolerated all other fish i've added. i turned the temp down so they wouldnt mate and everything has been extremely peaceful sine then.

I have a 7" Sev that Ive had for a year or so very chill fish but a pig when it comes to eating and outcompetes most of my other fish for food. Mine is pretty peaceful

My 8" gold and 6" Rotkeil are great they are in a tank with rainbows and don't even bother them..:naughty:Great community tank cichlids.....Then on the other hand in my 180 I have another Rotkeil who thinks his name is Rambo, very aggressive .:irked:

Morning All

just to re-affirm what has been mentioned earlier.

Generally a very peaceful fish, but you do get some real glass bangers :) BUT its generally evident when their pretty young, and they grow out of it, if your willing to give it a few years.

My 10" green male (minus tail, naturally :) ) was a real killer, but in the last few months, hes relaxed.

One thing to remember is, that with all cichlids, they have great memories. So if they take a dislike to a fish when young, chances are they'll never forget it. (mine hates plecos and clown loaches, but is fine with golden band loaches, whip tail cats and guppies)

Great fish though, big puppy dogs.

I kept two in a 6ft tank about 15yrs ago - a gold and a green, both around the 6" mark. The gold was stunning but the green was AMAZING - changing colours and intensifying its patterns a lot, depending on mood. The rainbow cichlid I currently have reminds me of them a lot.

I had no bother with aggression in my severums in any way but my plants always got trashed. Mind you, how much that was down to them or the large silver dollars and tinfoil barbs is hard to tell ;)
