If it's a mated pair life is going to be unplesent for sombody, possably you. Instead of getting a 55 kick in some extra cash and go stright for the 75 right off the bat, why buy twice. If you can't afford the 75 then I advise waiting until you can and do it that way. Don't be in a hurry Severums will still be around in a year.

Well I plan on getting another 55 and 75 for my fish room. Though I will most likely get the 55 first because I already have a penguin Bio wheel filter that does up to 70 gallons and a 250 watt marineland stealth heater, and I know someone who is getting rid of a 55 gal for $50. I plan on starting my sevs out in the 55 then moving them to the 75, and then putting something else in the 55.

Anyways after that long winded explanation, maybe you can help me with my current problem Aquanero. Right now in my 75 gallon I have a 3" GT, a 2.5" FM. I am going to add a 3" pictus cat. What would you recommend as another cichlid to add to the tank. Other than a convict, I had one in there before and am moving her because of extreme aggression problems. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I under stock all my tanks except for my Discus. I would say you could add a Severum or a JD, two HRPs males not a pair or if you really want somthing out of the ordinary an Archocentrus Centrarchus. Try doing all males if you want to avoid spawnning agression. I don't like crowding I perfer giving as much space as possable. That's what I like, others may have different opinions.

I tend to understock as well. my 55 gal only hold one female JD, my 29 gal will house a single female convict. As of right now my 75 has a male GT, a male FM, and a female convict (the one who will have her own aquarium very shortly).

I figure 2 medium sized chiclids ( my GT & another) + 1 smaller sized (the FM) and then the pictus cat would not be overstocking. Not 100% sure though, This 75 is the first tank that I have ever had more than one fish in so I am kind of new to the "community" tank thing.

I think I will stick with a male tank. I know that they say that male cichlids are the more aggressive but in my own experience the female fish I have kept have been far more aggressive than any male I have ever had.

Thanks for you info and suggestions I will probably go with a JD or a sev. Out of all the fish you suggested what would you add if it was your aquarium.

yeah well males are more aggressive if there is a female in the tank but as long as its just all males and they have no one to fight over or try to display their manly toughness to then they usually get along ok, n yeah i think you could add another med size cichlid no problem, whether a JD or severum i would definitely go with a severum, if you have a good fish store near you then they may have other variants than just the turquoise or gold. Rotkeils are always a favorite and there are also some extremely nice efasciatus variants if you can get ahold of them

If it was my tank working with the GT, FM and pictus you currently have I would add a regular JD (not an EBJD) or a nice Severum a Rot or even a Red or Gold.

However another option could be, lose the FM get 4 more GT's with the provision you can return 3 once you get a pair and do them in the 75 with nice aquascaping would be a great display IMO. I really like Gold Saum GT's an aside from Amphilophus are amonge my favorites. Absolutly beautyful colors. The pictus will assure you are not over with fry.

I have three in my 55 gallon. One is large, while the others are medium size. They seem to do pretty well with one another. I also have plenty of plants and hiding places.
