Severums Behavior

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes, unfortunately. What size tank? They might feel crowded and are fighting because they lack enough space.

They are fully grown couple. The tank is 250g with 2 polypterous 4-5 inch 1 common pleco same size and 5 clown loaches 3-4 inches as well

Your tank is plenty big enough. Ive bred sevs in as small as a 75. Some pairs never get it right and will eat the eggs every time or your other livestock is getting to the eggs because they aren't defending hard enough. They will lay on your rocks or wood so you can move that to a nursery tank once the eggs are fertilized. If you do that youll be responsible for picking off dead white eggs. Expect heavy losses of eggs and almost as heavy on fry. The fry take a fair amount of time to get to 2" sale size and by that time will start murdering each other so find a shop that will take them at an inch or be prepared to have a few tanks set up to separate them.

Can i add more fish in the tank?

I am thinking Earth Eater Rio Caucasia , Threadfin Acara Red and(or) Electric Blue Acara are they compatible?

Yes, if you are setting up another tank.

I've currently got EBA and Severum breeding in a 220. The violence can go off the charts if they both lay at the same time. The female EBA is 3 years younger than rest of the group and only 4" but she killed off the rest of the males harem save a swim bladder disabled former mate that isn't a threat to her. She's also killed half a dozen Columbian tetras and 3 hoplo catfish as well as the rest of her brothers and sisters I got with her.
During spawning the normally super peaceful Sevs chase off everything "Columbian Tetras, Hoplo Catfish, several different Bichirs" except for that lame female Acara. They only fight with the mini murder acara and her large mate. It's a wonder the sevs haven't killed the EBA. So add more cichlids at your/their own risk. Especially normally docile ones that come unhinged during spawning.
