Severums 'On Parade'

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Very nice looking Severum! I just picked up a group of Super Red Sevs last week and they seem really skittish. Is this normal for Severum in your experience? Granted the tank was bare before and last night I added a bunch of fake plants to see if that helps them settle in a little better.

I have kept several species of severum and they all benefit greatly from having dithers.

I agree, they can be shy. Plants (plastic or silk) and other structure(driftwood) can really help give them a sense of security. A good dither for me is Geophagus.

Perfect, thanks. I was planning on adding them to my Geo & Pleco tank once I get my bigger tank set up.

I have mistaken them as discus, almost because of the colors. lol.
(I'm not trying to say who's better discus or severus or stuff)

The super red severum resemble red discus in color, body shape and temperament, and may be called poor man discus for lower price and easier maintenance. I bet both super red and red discus have undergone converging mutation. Other morphs don't look like discus though due to significant differences in color and pattern.
