my lfs has a 6inch severum and i want to take it home but im wondering about there temprement? see i have a community tank id like to put it in and the three smallest fish are about 2inch. they are texas and salvini. the biggest in the tank is a 4inch texas and a 3 and a half inch salvini and i have had no problems at all. will a severum that big eat other cichlids? or will it just find its own bit of territory and keep on trucking like the others in the tank?

thanks

Severums are relatively tame cichlids especially compared to what you have. There are exceptions though, you never know with cichlids. If you have a lot of tank space I say go for it.

Severums a great fish the more peacefull of the medium to small cichlids but males do have a bossy streak in them especially around other cichlids of the same size or slightly smaller i think you'll be fine personally.

I agree, if you have the tank space then they should be fine together. the only aggression I ever saw out of the severums I used to have was with each other. 2 male severums in too small a tank will fight.

just keep in mind that you will need a large tank to house a severum, 2 texas and 2 salvini long term. I'd be thinking in the 125 gallon range. :)

My sev beats on all my other fish. But my other fish are big sissys. I would do it if I were you.

I got two sevs and both of them are crazy. i mean their good. never bothers anyone.

I think it really all depends on the individual fish. One I have before got murderd. Then another one that I had would fight with my jag all the time and when I would put my hand in the tank he go for my arm and bite like crazy. Also my dog and him would have stare downs and attack each other though the tank.
