Hey everybody! This is my first post here on this forum! I recently Bought 4 baby sevrum chiclids for my 50 gallon. This is way to small for them so I decided to get a 125 gallon as there permanent home which I am picking up tmro. I Guess I have two questions 1: is this still too small for (when they grow up) 4 adult sevrums. And 2: if it is big enough for all 4 and more can I hiuse them with other chiclids and which ones?

125 should be good.
Severums are usually not to bad but some have their own personality for sure. I had one that was a jerk to anything I tried adding after he was there. I have had 3 or 4 others that were fine with everyone and one that was afraid of everything and everyone. So out of 5 or 6 2 were weirdos and far end of the scale too. 1 hyper aggressive the other super submissive and afraid of everything.

A 125 should be plenty. The specific species will determine what else you can keep since severums can range from 8”-12” depending on species. Take a pic of them. Most are in the 10” range. Once you get a bonded pair, it may make sense to rehome the other two.

For the 125, stick to smaller eartheaters as mates. Red Head tapajos stay smaller with males reaching 8”. A small group of 5 or so mixed with a trio of festivums will finish off the tank nicely. Geos for the bottom, the severums in the middle, and the festivums up top.

Awesome thank you! What about electric blue acara? I am really looking to get some bright chiclids as I want the fish to really pop.

Didn’t realize you had two threads going.
I keep EBA with mine. They seem to do great together they have similar behavior and aggression levels

They should work. Get a group and whittle down to a pair.

Thank you all for the reply! unfortunately my plan to get a 125 gal is not going to work out as I don't think my floor will support all the weight . I could keep the tank in my basement but what's the point when I can't show it off. I have decided that because of this I am going to return the sevrums as I don't want them to be in a unstable tank. I will be posting another thread on what chic lids I can stock in my 46 gallon bow front tank now that I can not get a bigger tank. Thank you!

If the difference of weight between your 50 and a 125 is going to overcome your floor, you need to move out right now. Seems that your floor is not safe for the weight of an extra human ..... be scared man and don't invite the neighbours round

My dad says that overtime it may cause the floor to sag and he doesn't want to risk it. I wish I could prove to him it will be fine LOL
