Hey I am probably going to buy this 3" EBJD and I was wondering if any one would have a guess of its sex? From my understanding its very hard to do with out pairing up or venting, but thought I would still ask and see what this community has to say. Thanks :)

Dang.. thats a 3" I got one thats about 1.5" and looks just like that..

Good luck with it at 3" they are safe from any threat of dying..

As for sexing.. well... its rather hard.. BUT.. if u konw the shape of a regular Jack dempsey... u can sorta tell

Example... Female JD are rounder looking and sorta look like a big blooged fish.. while Male JDs are sorta sleaker looking.. REALLY HARD TO EXPLAIN..

but if u see enough male and female jd.. u can tell what EBJDs are..

From that fish.. it looks like a male..

Thanks for the imput :)

The store claimed it was 3" so who knows... lol

Would you two like to take a guess at this regular jd's sex? (I posted in another thread but more info can't hurt?) lol

its a female who is starting to develop her "signature" spots around the gill cover..

For a moment i thought it was a male.. but that last picture tip me off... u can see a bit of it and the fact that the fish looks like its very round on the head rather than sleak up like males..

my verdict.. FEMALE... i could be wrong..

im gunna say female

I dont know why they think that EBJD is a male. It looks very round and think to me. I think its impossible to sex an EBJD at a young age.

My EBJD is maybe 2 inches and already has streaming tails on the back of the dorsal fin.. I also saw others that looked like this, but some had the extensions already.. Is that a dead give away to be a male?
