Sex My Brand New JD !!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Why do you specifically want a female? Do you plan on trying to breed JD? If the lfs employee told you this one was a female I seriously doubt he'll be able to differentiate a M from F if you go back and say you want a F considering this one is clearly M and he thought it was F.
I WANT A FEMALE JD BECAUSE I ALREADY HAVE A MALE EBJD AND I REATHER HAVE A 1m and 1f the 2male and they fight and stress each other out

Which is just as likely to happen with a M/M combo... Specially with JD as they can be quite territorial and aggressive. If the scenario does arise the EBJD will surely loose since they're not as resilient as a regular JD.

o ok should i just get a smaller female because i broght the jd bigger because i thought he was a female so my ebjd want kill it

Size will make no different. I had to move my JD to his own 100g because he was destroying my Oscar that was MUCH bigger than him. Tank mating JD is a touchy thing. If they don't get along, your only recourse really is rehoming one. EBJD are a hybrid and tend to be more delicate and fragile so first signs of aggression I would separate them. But for all you know you could get lucky and find a pair that get along great. You don't know till you try. :)

ummm they are not a hybrid, just inbred. but yes they are weaker, if you are trying to breed them then your best bet would definitely be to get a female thats smaller than your ebjd and make sure you have a good divider handy. at the first sign of stress to the ebjd they will need to be separated, and yeah you obviously cant trust the lfs employee to differentiate sex since this one was clearly a male, the males will have a lot of coloring but the key is to look at the bottom half of the gill plate and the blue there will not just be spangling but will be smudgey as well. there will be blotches of smeared blue rather than the clear defined spangles of the male. if you are not trying to actually start a breeding project and just want a tank mate than i do not suggest another JD for your ejbd, you should do something more peaceful like a severum or something, what size tank is this?
