For me I find venting works best. I tried for a pair for months and keep ending up with males. Then I started venting and got a pair.

The first one looks like a male and the other 2 look female. Makes have noticeably longer dorsal find

not really sure, but they all look like male to me :)
from previous experience, female have a little rounder dorsal fin compared to males :) though I'm not 100% sure

Venting obviously shows the difference but the point is the fish are already on the brink of spawning anyway, by that point... We're trying to illustrate the differences pre-spawning not after ;)
