Sex my Flowerhorn PLZZZ

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not a trimac, definitely a FH though for sure. Trimac doesn't develop pearls all over the body like that. If I was to guess, I'd say it's a red dragon mix with something else(could be a malau X red dragon)...color of that FH needs to show out more to fully identify it. The best way to identify a trimac is their belly, it ranges from dark hot pink to purple sort of color. And they are more of a green/yellowish color like the red dragon. And they don't develop a humongous kok. :D

I wanted to post some pics for you, to illastrate what I was talking about when it said I thought it looked more like a Trimac. I have a little experance with them and although I would never be able to gurantee it's a Trimac do to it's suspect lineage, I did want you to see that at a young age how closely it resembles a pure Trimac and you can not say it's a cross between this or that or the color isn't correct and pearling should or shouldn't exist.
Top pic is mother with fry
2nd Pic father with fry
3rd pic 2" male from above batch of fry
Bottom pic is father at about 2.5"
Now, if I didn't know better I would think that young male Trimac looked like a young FH. It is common for young trimacs to have flower lines with some nice pearling. So, you never know unless you know the breeder or see the parents.

To me, your fish looks like the last pic that Aquanero posted. That's to a very un-expert eye. Your fish looks really cool regardless. I've yet to find a cool cichlid at my local Petco, it's always just the big sellers -african mixed tank, GT's, JD's and Oscars.

I say grow it out for a few weeks alone then repost a pic. but for now I say male
