Sex my Jag and Trimac Please

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I tried a male Jag and male Trimac in a 156 once. The Jag killed the Trimac but that doesn't mean yours would too. It might or might not work.

I think you are right about the trimac being a female.
I had heard about the black on the dorsal, plus I ordered a male and female from Rapps and what I think was the male died. I think it was the male because it was larger, and had more color. Not much color in the corpse, but it might help.

Bummer:(

My male is really becoming my favorite fish. He literally jumps for food every time I go to feed. I just need to get over the fact that he is so belligerent to everyone else in the tank. Hes also grown about twice as fast as my freddis, RTMs & doviis. Thankfully I have a larger male festae and larger male carpintis that are keeping him from being a total bully.:screwy:

I have put the male jag and the female trimac together in a 150 gal. Do you think this is going to work out?

Thanks!

I had the opposite dilemma than Balton. My Trimac tried to kill my Jag and the Trimac was smaller at the time. Mine was a male Trimac though, I dont know if that matters, never had a female.

The trimac definately has black on her dorsal.
The Jag was in a 180 gal community tank with less aggressive CA/SA cichlids (Oscar, JD's, GT, Firemouths and a Severum) After fights with the JD and the Severum he mostly stayed in a flower pot.

The Jag and the Trimac are together now in the 150 gal and seem to be getting along. I will be keeping an eye on them.

Thanks for the advice!
